The New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety
The Division of Highway Traffic Safety (DHTS) works to prevent motor vehicle-related crashes and the resulting property damage, injuries, and fatalities on New Jersey’s roadways. DHTS is responsible for administering the State & Community Highway Safety Program, which annually distributes approximately $30 million in federal funding to develop and implement a statewide highway safety plan. The Director of the DHTS also serves as the Governor’s representative to the Governor’s Highway Safety Association and The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) works to save lives, prevent injuries, and reduce the costs of traffic crashes – among drivers, passengers, pedestrians, and bicyclists.
Governors Highway Safety Association
Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) is the states’ voice on highway safety.
The New Jersey Police Traffic Officers' Association
The New Jersey Police Traffic Officers Association (NJPTOA) is a unique statewide association, established in 1974, made up of Law Enforcement, Public Sector Agencies, and Private Sector Entities, all with the common goal of enhancing traffic safety in the Garden State. The NJPTOA web site serves as a resource for the association members to exchange ideas and build working relationships. The Association's regular monthly business meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month, beginning at 10:00 am unless otherwise noted in the newsletter or special notice. There are no meetings during July and August. Agency Membership in the NJPTOA is completely funded by the NJ Division of Highway Traffic Safety.
Mission Statement
This organization shall be known as the New Jersey Police Traffic Officers' Association that is formed for the following purposes:
1. To associate Police Officers engaged in the various areas of Traffic Safety into an organized body so they may be kept apprised of the latest technology, training and legislation in the areas of Traffic Safety.
2. To establish and advance cooperation in the police profession and provide guidance and educational techniques to accomplish the goals of the Association.
3. To contribute time and effort to the citizens of New Jersey by means of serving on Statewide Traffic Safety Committees.
4. To recommend and support legislation consistent with the goals and purposes of this association and Public Safety.
International Association of Chiefs of Police, Traffic Safety
The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) is dedicated to addressing priority roadway safety initiatives, including impaired driving, distracted driving, speed enforcement, occupant protection, and officer safety. The traffic safety initiatives of the IACP are designed to provide resources, guidance, and best practices to the law enforcement community, in an effort to help prevent future loss of life on our roadways and to improve the overall quality of life in our communities.
